Care for Your Jewellery

A piece of Auramika is made to last a lifetime. With the right care, it will outlive both of us. Here is everything our karigars recommend.

By material

๐Ÿฅ‡
22K & 18K Gold
Gold does not tarnish, but it accumulates oils, lotions, and dust. Clean monthly with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Never use bleach or chlorine โ€” it weakens gold alloys.
๐Ÿ’Ž
Diamonds
Diamonds attract grease from skin contact. A brief soak in warm soapy water followed by gentle brushing restores brilliance. Dry thoroughly โ€” moisture trapped under the setting can loosen the stone over time.
๐ŸŸข
Coloured Gemstones
Emeralds, rubies, and sapphires are durable but can be sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Clean with a damp cloth only. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for emeralds โ€” most are oiled and ultrasonic vibration can damage the treatment.
โœจ
Polki & Uncut Diamonds
Polki diamonds are set in foil-backed open settings. They should never be submerged in water or cleaned with chemicals. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth only. The foil backing can corrode with moisture.
๐ŸŒ™
Enamel Work
Enamel is glass fused to metal โ€” it is hard but can chip with impact. Store enamel pieces separately. Clean with a soft damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals entirely.
๐Ÿ”˜
Pearls
Pearls are porous and the most delicate material we work with. Wipe after every wear with a soft damp cloth. Never expose to perfume, hairspray, or acids. Store flat in a separate cloth pouch โ€” never in a plastic bag.

Quick dos and don'ts

Do

  • Put jewellery on last, after perfume and makeup
  • Remove before swimming, showering, or exercising
  • Store each piece separately to prevent scratching
  • Clean gently every 4โ€“6 weeks
  • Have settings checked by a jeweller once a year
  • Keep in the original Auramika box when not wearing

Don't

  • Expose to chlorine, bleach, or household cleaners
  • Wear in the sea or a swimming pool
  • Apply hand sanitiser while wearing rings
  • Store in direct sunlight (fades coloured stones)
  • Use ultrasonic cleaners on emeralds or polki
  • Sleep in necklaces or bracelets with chains

Long-term storage

If storing for more than a month, wrap each piece individually in the cotton pouch provided and place in a cool, dry drawer away from direct light. For very valuable pieces, a jewellery safe or bank locker is recommended.
